HELLO, DOLLY! Most people my age probably don't rent Hello, Dolly! to see Cornelius Hackl, but I'm not like most people my age. Barbra Streisand is good, but she's no Michael Crawford... Overall, I think the casting is great, and Gene Kelly directed it beautifully. I know a lot of people found contraversy in the fact that Streisand was cast as Dolly Levi and Carol Channing didn't get the chance. But things like that happened (and still happen) all the time. After all, Julie Andrews didn't get to be Eliza Doolittle; Audrey Hepburn did. For what it's worth, I think Barbra did a great job. (And so did Audrey... I wish they had let her sing. I digress.) I recommend this movie to any who likes musicals, especially happy ones. I recommend it to Barbra fans. I recommend it to people who want to see Michael Crawford way before he donned his mask. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have "Hello, Dolly" playing in their head for the next week. My favorite songs, for the curious, are "It Only Takes A Moment", "Elegance" and "Ribbons Down My Back". Guess my favorite character. 10/14/09
I want to start a band called The Penniless Pretenders.
