WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

I was really excited about this movie when I saw the first previews. As a child, I remember being obsessed with Max's outfit and wishing that my friend Greg Weaver would give me his Max doll. I didn't really remember the story, going into it, but I figured that it wouldn't matter. It was mostly pictures in book form. Pictures in a ten page book.

The movie, while visually stunning, was a disappointment. It felt like two hours of monsters arguing over what seemed like random things. Arguing for the sake of arguing so that Max could see them acting like the adults in his life. The fuzzy, Muppet-like "Wild Things" felt too cute to be in a story like this. I wanted to cuddle them all and write them a better life. I feel that this movie is something to see for the visual work, but the story just left me feeling kind of empty. And this is supposed to be for kids? There were kids in the theatre with me, and they all seemed bored and confused.

And why did a giant dog make a humorous, random appearance, only to never be shown or mentioned again?

I still want Max's costume, though.
